Re: Not all of my roms are uploading onto the SD card
Is there a difference in performance between using zipped ROMs and unzipped ROMs? We don't really have performance to spare when we are using a zero.

Re: Not all of my roms are uploading onto the SD card
Within the game, you will see zero difference between zipped or not zipped.
The only difference is the loading time which can take more time if zipped and if the archive is very big.
BUT !!
unzipping everything will consume huge space as zipping really takes down size so it’s up to you.
As for me, i prefer a slight decrease in loading time while launching the game than killing and loosing space on my SD...

Is there a video or written guide to adjusting the Pi over Putty or similar?
I am USELESS at programming and although know what to type have no idea where or how at the moment and 24 hours of me fumbling about like a teenager with a Bra i still have no idea what i am doing.

I have written a guide to ssh the pi
http://sudomod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=45&t=3567
Also i have written a guide to make huge optimization to the Pi

Re: Not all of my roms are uploading onto the SD card
I apologise profusely. The SSH is all new to me and i am making a mess of it...YaYa wrote: ↑Wed Nov 01, 2017 4:46 amto find a file,
This will install the locate programCode: Select all
sudo apt-get install mlocate
then, to create a file location databasethen to search for a fileCode: Select all
sudo updatedb
where, of course, in our case, the your_file is es_systems.cfgCode: Select all
locate your_file
Code: Select all
locate es_systems.cfg
I have FINALLY located the file. I see the following.
pi@retropie:~ $ locate es_systems.cfg
/etc/emulationstation/es_systems.cfg
/etc/emulationstation/es_systems.cfg.bak
I try to edit the cfg with this command...
"sudo ~/etc/emulation/es_systems.cfg" but thats not working.
Is there no way i can get to it through the SD card being inserted into my PC and explorer? I am no good at this Linux stuff...

No you can’t easily get access to this partition in windows.
To edit a file, you need to use nano sotware.
So you basically type
Sudo nano your_file
It will
Launch a command line editor
When modified, you press control o to writeOut and then controlx to eXit
You will see in the bottom part of the editor’s screen all the shorcuts (in linux, the control symbol is ^)

Re: Not all of my roms are uploading onto the SD card
I am still going nowhere fast with this.
I still have no desired ROMS and despite getting into the SSH both directly and through the WiFi i dont know what to type to get it to work!
sudo ~/RetroPie-Setup/retropie_setup.sh works as per ya yas instructions but thats not adjusting the ROM settings.
Sudo Nano takes me to a blank screen with some options (hotkeys) at the bottom.
I dont understand why I have no SNES, NES or Megadrive access when these are the basics so many get automatically. Its just currently causing my completed GBZ to rest next to the BIN!

Re: Not all of my roms are uploading onto the SD card
What are you trying exactly to do ?
You copied your roms and you can’t see them ?
You want to copy but don’t know how to ?
You think you copied the roms but you are not sure ?
You want to add a system ?
Take your time and explain, no need to throw your GBz lol or at least send it to me![Wink ;)](./images/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif)

Re: Not all of my roms are uploading onto the SD card
Ok,
So i did a clean install of the retropie OS on a Samsung 32gb SDHC card. It booted to Emulation station and created its partitioning.
I then wiped a 16gb Sandisk USB stick to Fat32 and inserted it into my GBZ USB slot and powered on. The USB had some folders added to it one of them being "ROMS".
I moved the USB back to my PC and copy over the Roms i have to their respective folder. I have NES, SNES, Gameboy, Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advance, Megadrive, Lynx and Mame.
I move the USB stick back to the GBZ and reboot where i get a list of the consoles i have games for and how many games. The only issue is i DO NOT have SNES, NES and Megadrive show up (Ironically these are the three main systems for me).
I have checked that all the file types in the folders are as they where extracted from their Zip folders and for example the Nes folder ALL files are *.nes and every one i tried works on a PC emulator but NONE get moved over to my GBZ. I know there is space on the SDHC card as the USB stick is half the capacity.
I have managed to pull of a few of your optimisation tips and located the cfg file as you earlier instructed but i cannot update the game folders to adjust the file types they read as suggested or another work around. I even managed to get my Camdel safe shutdown part way working with its code (I had no internet connection for it though). So i am not being a COMPLETE spanner here...Just a noob with bucket loads of frustration at the moment...IM taking it out on you fellas and my GBZ...Sorry![Sad :(](./images/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif)

Re: Not all of my roms are uploading onto the SD card
Ok. This is more detailed, good.
So when you say they are not copied, i presume you say that because you don’t see the games in your gamelist, do you ?
But did you actually try to list the files within the roms folders to see if they were REALLY on the SD ?
I mean list from the command line just to eliminate the fact that automatic USB rom service do copy everything.
I am almost convinced that your problem IS Emulation Station not seeing your roms because he don’t know what to look for !
E.g. he is waiting a .zip and you provide him .nes or reverse...
Here is a usefull list, check for each system (found on the right menu) which file extension is waiting the emulator (read each page, this information IS on the page)
https://github.com/retropie/retropie-se ... ent-System
You will find the rom extension information under the ROM chapter.
These extensions are case sensitive.
You must check then the /opt/retropie/configs/all/emulationstation/es_systems.cfg
File to be sure that you have the correct extensions to inform Emulation Station. THIS IS CASE SENSITIVE.
If you see .zip in the list for a given system and you provide .ZIP files, it won’t see them. If you provide .Zip files, it won’t work.
You can feed as many extensions as you want.
Basically, your roms are there, but your system don’t know how to see them.
