GBZ Issues

I am currently using the PRS Tech SD Card Reader.
I tried shortening my wires, and twisting data cables together, but so far no joy.
I have tested the continuity with my multimeter and all seems good.
Any pointers on where I'm going wrong? Or something I'm missing.
The soldering isn't great but I can't see any wires touching when they shouldn't etc.
If I put the sd card directly in the pi everything boots up fine.

You mentioned about shortening the wires, but how short is it? Have you tried twisting all the wires as well?
Question aside: how are these types of wires called? I am interested.

You should carefully check the wiring and pp points again, it's easy to confuse one pad or having it all wrong, just double check.
And as for your wiring, the parts without insulation are too long, you should tip the pp pads with the solder iron from the top, when the solder melts shove in a nice snipped of wire about 1mm into the molten solder (sidewards) and wait a sec. (leave the stripped wire as long as the pinpad approx 1/2mm) not longer.
Should be good to go, and when you are done you just wrap all wires together in screw like fashion.
Start over remove all, and do it one by one and double check.
Can't go wrong, Good Luck

I suggest you to wrap the cables with shielding to avoid interferences, it should help !

That would be efficient if the wiring is done ok, and it doesn't work, twisting them will work much better, however shielding stuff is always good.

I've wired up several of these card readers with no issues. As 144TECH says, recheck all wiring.
Ensure correct wires go to correct pads and there's no shorting beween any. Also make sure you pop an imaged SD card in to test (im sure you are!).
Only other thing i can think of would be pins touching on the underside of the cart reader but unlikely.

Thanks guys. I have only twisted the data so far.
I will redo the wiring as suggested. They are about 8.5cms I cut off about 3.5cm. What kind of shielding would I use? And yeah the sd card is imaged I'm using the same one direct into the pi.

I thought I would check the pins on the underside as you suggested and I can see a bunch of them bent. Not sure how I've done that maybe while soldering. I doubt it will make a clear connection like that. I'll take it apart and see if I need a new one.

Idk if you have enough wire there, but you should cut all the wires to the same length, strip them on both sides, twist the core on both sides, and flow them with solder on both sides , after that put all the wires together and snip the soldered part off and make all the stripped parts of the wires the same length, or as good as you can, now just do it one by one when soldering the wires back, and everytime you do one, double check. can't wait to see your gbz with working cart in the show off corner
