Screen turning off during boot

Hi Guys,
I need some help getting to the bottom of a problem with my build.
I'm seeing some strange behavior to do with my LCD screen, during boot after a few seconds on the RetroPie splash screen, the LCD screen turns off. This is when running from battery, it seems to be able to get past this screen when I have power plugged in (but not always rarely with the power plugged in the screen turns off at the same place as well).
The raspberry pi still seems to be on and active (the LED light is still on), it just seems like the screen shuts off
If I have the gameboy zero plugged into HDMI it seems to boot fine whether its on battery power or plugged in.
I'm using the Adafruit Micro Lipo Charger
https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-mic ... s/overview in my build if that helps
If you need other details on my build please let me know.

Which board are you using ? How isnyour cable routing ? Please post some pictures...
At first read, i’ll say that you lack power when on battery

I’ll get you some pictures when I next have a chance. It’s not the prettiest wiring (more first attempt at electronics ever) and that might just be the problem, I may have to go back and try and improve it
But I’m just using a basic button PCB and not an AIO board. So I have a usb hub and usb sound card seperate.

Ok post a part list with links also. I’m pretty sure you can’t handle the current draw

Hmmmm. Did you try booting with a different SD card with a fresh retropie without anything added to the image ?

Hmm. Can the adafruit micro lipo handle all that? Might be you screen needs 5v. Correct me if I am wrong. But the adafruit micro lipo does not boost the battery to 5v.
Often people use the powerboost 1000c. Or the the generic banggood powerboost for the projects.

Yeah I have tried a new image and a new sd card with the same results.
I guess it could be a voltage problem from the microlipo, I just chose that as it was small and seemed to be used interchangeably in the MintyPi guide.
Is it worth giving that a shot? Is there anyway I can verify that’s the problem before making the switch?

Yes you can try this. Hack an USB cable, and power everything with the V+ and V- from the cable directly. (Stripped)
If it turns on, then the micro lipo is too weak and does not supply the correct voltage.
You will need to change it for something more suitable like a 500 (does not allow play/charge) a 1000 (same as the 500 but charges faster) or a 1000C (the best, charge fast and allow to charge/play)
