I was just about to screw my unit together for the last time and suddenly thought...I havent heard anything from it...

So i checked it out. Wiring looks ok. But i have no sound.

USB hub wired to the USB DAC to the input of the Adafruit Amp which goes to a variable pot, headphone jack and speaker.

I even bypassed the pot and headphone jack direct to the speaker...And nothing.

Can someone advise me what the hell i have done wrong?

Can you SSH onto it and execute "lsusb"? This will print out the connected usb devices. If the soundcard is shown, the hub and soundcard is connected correctly and properly powered. If not, check the wiring.

You can also check, if the soundcard is working by connecting a multimeter in AC mode to the output and check if there is a voltage, if you play sounds on the raspberry.

I have the following listed.

bus 001 device 001: ID Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
bus 001 device 002: ID Unknown manufacturer hub
bus 001 device 003: ID Van Ooijen Technische Informatica Teensyduino Keyboard+mouse+joystick
bus 001 device 004: ID C-Media Electronics, Inc.

Unless device 4 is the card its not listed. I have a Sabrent (short stubby) USB audio card.

Not sure if it will be of help but this happened to me:
Mine is set to use PWM audio. Somehow in the 2 weeks i had it assembled my audio quit. Plugged around for a couple hours and my literal only possibility was the volume knob got messed up somehow. I swapped it out and it worked fine again.

Some reason only the first image is working for me. I am assuming you are using these things like most people do?

These are what i use and had to swap out once.

Logic states if i bypass the volume knob and the audio jack (direct to speaker) i should bypass these problems...Doesnt it? As i have done so and still get no sound. I tested my jack wiring when i first completed it and it worked but not since adding the sound card. I will delve deeper into the wiring but so far i am scratching my head.

Logis states that you need to enable the USB Audio in OS.

you did that?

By default retropie set audio to something else. You need to change audio to use your device no. 4. Use the search or google how to change retropie to USB audio.

Er....No i wasnt aware i had to adjust the settings for the sound...Anyone know a good keyword(s) to search. I have searched and found hundreds of posts that are not showing me what i want to i am guessing i am looking for the wrong terminology. Better still...A link?

It may sound simple and obvious but i honestly thought that it was pre setup for this on the install image...I guess it actually defaults to HDMI audio?
