Parts for me first GBZ build

Hello!

So I started looking at the gameboy zero a few days ago and now I cant stop until I have all the parts to build one and have one of my own. I've watched quite a few videos, all with different parts and ways. I'm not new to soldering, but I'm no expert either. I've built a few arduino/pi projects before but I thought that I'd just take this one slow and enjoy it!


Here is what I've got so far. I'd really appreciate it if you experienced folk could have a look at it att see if I'm missing anything important. It's kind of overwhelming at first the amount of stuff you need and all the different kinds of parts there is on the market.

Alot of the stuff is being shipped from within the EU since Swedens postal service charges ~$8.50 per package that comes from outside of the EU. That means that something costing $2 will cost $11 by the time it gets to me. Kind of shitty but thats just how it is right now.

I don't think you need to buy USB type A sockets because you get one already with the powerboost 1000, it isn't soldered to the board so you can use that one instead. But, if you want to have spares just in case then go ahead.

For the screen I'd recommend the Gearbest instead since it is guaranteed to work without modification, it's a lot less risk. https://www.gearbest.com/development-bo ... 29447.html With the one you linked you won't know which variant of the pcb board you'll get.

Also make sure you have all the wires, I'm using 24AWG for power and 28 AWG for everything else, I've seen some go for 30AWG too. (threaded wire not single core). I found having tweezers helps a lot with soldering the wires.

Have you seen wermy's guide? You probably need something similar to his 3D printed screw bracket (to close the case): http://market.sudomod.com/3d-printed-gbz-screw-bracket/ you can find the design file here on the forums for free if you want to print your own.

And just in case you don't already own a step drill bit, then I highly recommend to use it to make the extra button holes for X and Y buttons. http://market.sudomod.com/step-drill-bi ... ole-drill/

Okej, so I'll change the screen for simplicity, but USB port could always be handy to have lying around at home

I have a lots of wire and all of that so I'm good there. I'll probably be going for the 24AWG too.

I've got the cartrage reader bracket, buttons wells and the case screw bracket in the list from ebay. Thanks for taking time to check the list!

One thing I suggest is camble's safeshutdown board. Makes shut down a whole lot easier which is literally just a flip of the switch. Without it you have to go into retropie, and select shutdown system, wait for the pi to power off, THEN manual turn off your GBZ. but camble's board writes that script to shut the system down, and cuts the power after. Only 15 bucks, and definitely worth it.
