Not sure how to mod this screen to run in my build...

Hey! I’m new to all this. I ordered everything I need to build my first Gameboy Zero. I’m learning a lot! Never soldered anything to this point, but I’ve been practicing, and I’m pumped to get started.

PROBLEM: I’m not sure how to mod this screen (back up monitor from Amazon) to run in my build. I looked over the list of vatiants on sudomod, but I never found mine. Can anyone help me out with this! Thanks very much in advance! Picture below.

Can anyone verify that this is the correct mod (picture attached)?

Verified. This is the correct mod for this variant. But I also had to desolder the chip and run power straight to the pin 3 pad to get it to work. Thanks to Ludaris for the guidance!

I have the exact same board, thanks for posting your link in a recent post. I found +5V on pin 3 as expected. I first tried a jumper wire and got zero response from the screen. Disconnected my jumper and powered the board with +12V, everything went back to working.

Did you find the same when you first modded the board?
Any tips to removing the 8-pin chip?

Thanks!

I took this picture to as the latest step I took. The chip is still soldered onto the board, and I connected my previously soldered jumper wire on pin 3 directly to the voltage in line. No action on the screen, but it works fine when 12v applied.

Trying to cover all the bases before irreversibly removing the chip! :D Image

Hey! My experience was the same. Mine wouldn’t work at all on battery power until I removed the chip. I sucked away as much solder as possible with a solder sucker (solder wick should work too, maybe better). Then, I used some fine-point tweezers to gently pry the chip up while applying the soldering iron to one side. Best of luck!

I just got my BW screen for a first build, and the board is the same as this one, so thanks for all the info on it! Is there an official name for this "variant" yet?
