No power to Pi

Post by jankyyaf » Sat May 25, 2019 6:37 pm

I've been following this wiring diagram for the power, using Helders 2.2 PCB board, along with Wermys GBZ guides to no avail.

I have the adafruit powerboost 1000c and I have the switch wired, the battery plugged in, and a USB plugged in and the battery charges and the powerboost powers up, but I do not have power to the pi. No pictures at this time.

If anyone has basic troubleshooting or links to similar issues, please feel free to respond.

well for a start there is NO Ground (GND) going to the RPi......

the only Ground (GND) you have is coming a from the external USB charging point, which isnt providing any Ground (GND) to the circuit....
(the way you have it now, a Ground (GND) will only be introduced when you plug a power source in the the external USB port)

heres a diagram of Helder 2.2 (not sure if your following this one)

and as the previous diagram doesnt have a charging port.....
just add/wire your one like this.....

NB: any Ground (GND) point on the Powerboost can be used (they are interchangeable)
(the Ground to the RPi, need to be coming from the Powerboost)

I did follow that one also, but had to incorporate a switch. I have the 5v and ground going to the power strip from the powerboost. My only power is coming from the strip to the pp1 and the ground from the strip to pp3(?) (The pad right underneath the power pad.

Basically the helders diagram you put. I plug into the pi, and everything powers up. Power from the powerboost and it's only the powerboost with power

it would have also helped to have shown the RPi......

but to avoid going around in circles....

try this.....

also please try to clean up some of your soldering....
(i appreciate that this might be new to you, but there's now excuse for sloppy solder work)

also try to use one single length of wire, joins are not a good look and have a tendency to fail
(especially if your soldering isn't up to par)

i noticed that when i don't have a battery plugged in, my powerboost will show the charge led and low led lit up. i saw in a post while searching the forums that he had a possible shorting issue. I followed your diagram and fixed up my soldering, and i'm still feeling a dead end. My powerboost lights up when the pi is powered directly, so i'm at a loss
