Kite Circuit Sword Freezes/locks up.

Post by WoodMill » Mon Jun 24, 2019 7:22 am

Finished building my 5th GBZ this weekend. This is using the latest Circuit Sword CM3 from Kite.

A few times now, the device has locked up. But I'm going to have to do some more testing to see if I can have more consistent data. But so far, it's frozen when not playing games. Just simply scrolling through the list of games under a console.

The system is cool. The fan hadn't kicked on yet. I have a heatsink on the CPU. It's done it with Wifi on and off. Everything seems to work fine until it freezes. Power switch will not shut it down. I have to pull the battery in order to get it to shut off. The SD card is a brand new Samsung 128gb.

Are there any tests I can do to "stress test" it and see if I can pinpoint the problem? Or are there logs that may have the info?

Thanks!

*edit* Oh, I have installed the newer CM3+ Lite, instead of the one it came with. Could that be the issue? Thought I saw that the software had been updated for that version, or was I just imagining things?

Who the hell knows what was going on before. Ive played for about 30-45 mins before bed the last two nights without issues. So...IDK why it locked up a couple times before.

Keep me updated, things to check would be that the battery health is good and the connections are solid. Also if it happens again we can replace the CM3 module itself.

Just a tip, if it does crash, just turn the power switch off and then press the MODE button, and it will instantly power off. No need to remove the battery :)

Well dang. How'd I miss the mode button as the fail safe? Thanks Kite!

Still haven't had another 100% complete freeze up while playing or navigating games, but have noticed that if I transfer a lot of roms at a time over the wifi, the UI locks up. I can wake it out of sleep (dim) mode, and it still continues to transfer roms in the background, but cannot navigate. No buttons will do anything. Start, select, navigation, launch, nothing. I've thought that maybe it's just super busy, so I let it set for another 15 minutes, and still nothing.

Yeah this has always been the way with wifi and haven't really found the cause/solution to that. Using something different like WinSCP (and using SCP protocol) or trying FTP upload sometimes makes it work a bit better than SAMBA upload
