The cable seems to be in pretty tight. I used a few pieces of kapton tape. Its a tight fit, but I will check again and make sure its enough

yeah, like i mentioned, it can be tricky. when i have gotten it working, i used 2 layers of masking tape, and went nearly the the end of the strip where the ribbon's pins are, and then (carefully) cut off the excess on the sides. sometimes, you can try jiggling it around in the connector a little. as dividion said, if you get power from the 3v3 / ground, then you should at least get a white screen. it takes around 15 seconds at boot before the screen registers its drivers and shows an image.
