Help needed with GameBoy Zero build (UK)

A few years ago I bought all the parts I needed and followed Wermy's guides. I got quite far but for various reasons I then didn't have a lot of free time to spend on it and it got forgotten about in a drawer.

I recently got it out and attempted to carry on but am now at a loss to pick up where I left it. This sort of thing isn't something I have attempted before and I'm finding it frustrating to not have it finished!

Is anyone here from the UK and willing to help? Not sure what would be best - either sending photos for written help, Skyping, or even sending the unfinished Gameboy off might be easier? I'm willing to pay for any help necessary.

Thanks guys!

I'd suggest post some pics......
lets see what your working with....
and where/what you need to be finished with a completed build
(lets see if we can get you on your way)

don't look to pay someone....
you should be able to complete it yourself (that's what the whole project is about).....
if you wanna part with money, then just buy a pre-build unit (thats already on the For Sale section)

Yeah, I would rather finish it myself it's just a time problem. If I get an hour or so to work on it I spend all my time going through the various guides and videos to work out where I'm at and why I have done things a certain way. By the time I get to the next step I have work or parenting or whatever to do and I'm back at the same spot the next time.

Your wiring is all messed up....

Volume wheel (wrong)
RPi0 (wrong)
Power strip (wrong)
And more....

here is a diagram based on the parts/components I can see in the pics you posted......
(this is ultimately based on all the parts working as they should.... for example the LCD)

not exactly sure which volume wheel you have, but this is how I've always wired mine

I’d personally desolder everything that is wrong first and start a fresh...

1st get the LCD/Screen working
2nd get the AIO connected properly to the RPi
3rd get the sound going (volume wired properly)

You may have to hook up power before all or any of these

I would make sure solder connections are all solid.....
and try to limit the length of the wiring.... This helps for better signals and will come in handy when trying to close the build...
(some of your wiring choice should also be looked at again)

also...
I'd scrap the SD card to cartridge mod (just MHO)
but if you did want it...
then test and setup everything with the SD card in the RPi, and once everything is working (LCD, Sound, USB) then concentrate on that aspect its one of the most finicky parts of the whole build/project

if you get stuck....
just come back and ask......

Thanks so much for the help. And the diagrams! So good.

Will definitely follow this when I have some time to get back into it. Cheers
