You could use a bus switching IC but you would need to have a custom pcb or a ton of wires. These ICs can switch a bunch traces like from the cart or buttons to either the original system or the Rpi0. Not practical since the wire management would be an issue so a pcb is the way to go but I think it's alot of work and not worth it in my opinion.
