Need help with PRS Micro SD Card Board

Post by LarsH. » Wed Jun 21, 2017 10:13 am

i have some trouble by booting my Gameboy from my SD Card. I wired everything up correctly but the screen stays Black (HDMI don't work too). Iam powering the SD Card reader with the GPIO pins from the Pi3. (Everything works fine if i boot directly from the SD Card Reader from
the Pi itself). I have measured everything, it should work. I despair of it, I have already checked it all over several times.

Wires are way too long. Twisting the data lines helps. Shielded cable is always the best.

First of all, cable length is a very recurrent issue trying to get PRS's cartridge reader working. That I can tell from experience. The shorter the better.
Second, regarding twisting the data lines, I haven't tried it for PRS's cartridge reader but it also something that comes up a lot for USB ports and AIOs (typically Helder's board). My guess would be that it doesn't hurt.

To give you some personal insight, I realized shorting the data lines was essential, but not sufficient. I managed to make it work once, out of a gameboy case, but once assembled it didn't work anymore. My next step is to try some shielded/twisted cable that my roommate got me 1m of and experiment that to connect the PRS's board to the RPZ. Also, I am assuming you didn't have any shorts and that everything is wired correctly. The former is pretty frequent as the RPZ pads are VERY close to each other.

Keep us updated.

EDIT: Sorry I completely forgot your weren't working with PRS's board (I'm tired). But a lot applies to it. Can someone more experienced confirm please?
