Help with screen gearbest before ripping apart

Post by px400 » Thu Jul 06, 2017 10:39 pm

Hey guys, it's my first time posting here and I may need some help with my screen.

I bought the 3.5' inch screen from gearbest that has only the board and screen without need to disassembly. But I am not sure with I can connect 5v or not on it.

I uploaded some pictures on imgur to see if you guys can help me.

As well, would be better assembly the gameboy zero with or with out the teensy 2.0 board?

thanks a lot!

You need to make a little modification to run the screen from 5V. You have to connect the VCC input directly to one leg of the voltage regulator, like this: https://postimg.org/image/cm42j3ryx/, http://i86.servimg.com/u/f86/18/04/94/98/img_2011.jpg.
But it seems like you have a little bit different board, so make sure to check datasheet of the regulator so you don't connect the wire to wrong pin.

If you want to make everything easier, I would recommend to use the Teensy. But if you want to save some money and connect the buttons directly to GPIO pins, check out this guide (viewtopic.php?t=57).

We just discussed gearbest screen's set up in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=3369
Also, some of them work without any modifications.

Dear lord! Works! Kind of...

I wired the PIzero and the lcd after doing the jumper between the lcd IC and the power supply first with my external battery that provide 2.1A and 5v but some white lines showed up in the screen.

I even try with the power supply that provide 5v /2.5A and still the white lines on the top of the screen.

Any idea of what could be?

Here we go with more pics:

Besides that, boot alright, only the font is a bit small for someone blind like me! hahahaha

Thanks again for your help guys, thanks a lot! Let's see if I can put all help in good use and with that learn more about gameboy zero projects!

By the way: I am using the following wiring only for test, tomorrow I will try connect direct to the appropriated gpio pins.

Please check, is your ribbon cable damaged? This can be reason of the white stripes.

Don't seems to be damage because I took it straight out of the box.
I will get tomorrow some multi meter an check the output voltage and see if I can manage to check the status of the ribbon cable too.

thanks for the tip.
