Raspberry Pi B+ dead?

I was looking at chiz show-off thread and cut up my pi and desoldsred everything but after testing I never get a power light. I got a power light until I desoldsred the audio jack which is weird to me. I will buy another one tomorrow but I thought it was strange on why I would not get any power.

The ACT light comes on but never the power.

I agree this is very odd... Firstly, the activity (green) LED is lit but the power (red) LED isn't. First time I've seen the Pi like this. Secondly, the 3.5 jack is the easiest to de-solder and I agree with you that it's likely the cause of killing the Pi.

Are you sure the Pi is dead? Leave it for a while and try powering it again. And try a different SD card with a plain Raspbian. It could just be the SD card that was fried and not the Pi. Good luck!

The cam connector has a number of shorts (clean up with a soldering iron) and the two inductors at the top left are damaged, which may be a cause (they can still work but unknown, as long as the wire isn't damaged). Use a multimeter to probe around, if you probe all the big capacitors they will either be 3.3v, 5v, or 1.8v. The power led doesn't light up if the voltage drops below some value (on the 5v in line) so perhaps if there is a short, it is dropping your 5v down and the light not showing! So clean up ALL of your shorts first.

Just comparing your board to mine, if you look at the top right of the board, just below the power led. There is the number J7. Mine has a surface mount component on there and yours is missing? Have you used helping hands? It's close to the corner so it could have caught it?

My board does have a slightly different layout so might be a different version, but lower down the board another one numbered R40 is missing. However that maybe normal.

Also, again it might be nothing but just behind where your power lead plugs in, by the chip numbered C5 the pin to that chip looks a bit off? Might be the pic, but the leg of the chip looks like it is set at an angle.

Might be worth posting a pic of the other side of the board as well?

Yeah I can do that. This is a B+ and not a RP2 regular. I ended up getting a RP2 regular and went through the same process and it works fine. I will post some pics of the back but it is different from the RP2 regular in some ways.
