I just wanted to say, I don't know if you guys are at all familiar with this but there are a few problems. In order to use a wii remote you would need to have android version 4.2 or earlier installed which is pretty old software at this point...

a bluetooth controller that connects with the current version of android would work though! but the only other thing I have a problem with is that you basically gut nearly every part of a gameboy just for its case and that hurts me in the heart

I maintain my idea of using Arduino pro micro, since it is programmed as a joypad, and Android with On the go cable would make it work, I'll probably make one with no battery required, just the board, the phone case and the gameboy case :p

Completely not true. There are plenty of aftermarket non-oem gameboy shells that are perfect for this application (even more so because all you need is the shell, buttons, and PCB which are available because of awesome forum members).

Agree that the bare OEM case is best suited for this application. Just add Helder's v1.0 button controller board plus the Adafruit Bluefruit EZ-key (for those who prefer wireless over OTG). I think the Wiimote is overkill for this application.

I don't think the wiimote is overkill, that's the beauty of DIY, people do project with parts they have, to buy nothing else and that's why it's pretty amazing
