[SOLVED] SAIO - Switch off LEDs
[SOLVED] SAIO - Switch off LEDs
Hello together,
Since Im using a 3D printed case in white you can see all the LEDs of Kites Board shining through.
Switching of the Pi LED is already done.
For for the board, no idea except cover them with black tape.
Any software solution for this.
Of course the Indicators on the top should stay on.
THX!

thats not just an issue with a 3D printed case....reipet wrote: ↑Fri Jan 26, 2018 2:11 amHello together,

i've also had the same issue with the repro white DMG cases you get from China
(i wouldn't be surprised if it also happens on other lighter colour cases)....
there may be a solution for you from Kite....
but i've either cover the LED with electrical tape (preferably black),
or recently i've just been removing the LED all together, as i've installed my own exposed LED (this might not be for everyone)
on parts like....
Generic Power Supply
USB Sound Card (which flashes repeatly, not a good look when traveling on a plane)

I have the same opinion, as well for power consumption: remove the actual LED or at least the responding resistor if you are afraid for temperature damages on the LEDs.

Re: Switch off LEDs on AIO
You should be able to just desolder the LED's or cover them. Maybe there is a software fix that Kite can recommend, what I would like to know is where you got the STL's for the case, i'd be interested to print one myself. Is it the same layout as the original gameboy?reipet wrote: ↑Fri Jan 26, 2018 2:11 amHello together,

It will be worth having a good look over the thread....
Gives a great insight into the pitfalls some people faced....
But I think for the money....
reipet shell isn't a bad routh to take either....
The SLA does look really smooth...

Re: Switch off LEDs on AIO
There isn't a software fix other than for the orange/yellow one in the middle (see code for the LED flash function and comment it out). The rest are hooked to voltage lines for easy visual debug, so black tape or solder them off

So all the credit goes to Neolith for it.
I made several changes though and Im still working on the final details to print again.
I will create a build threat for this then.
I think black tape will be the most practical solution.

Re: Switch off LEDs on AIO
What about taping off the outside of the case and painting the inside with a few coats of paint ? Just thinking outside the box lol.
Re: Switch off LEDs on AIO
I'd just put a few daps of black touch up paint or nail polish over the LEDs, easy enough to remove with acetone if you want the LEDs back later and you don't have to worry about the tape coming loose with heat or anything.
Re: Switch off LEDs on AIO
Quick update, Black tape on the shell does help but cant eliminate it completely.
Putting a strip of tape directly over the LED on the Board does the trick though. I think there should not be problem with falling off tape due to heat.
For the status LEDs on the top I will still try to put tape on the shell itself.
Im sending out the new parts for printing today and will open a build threat then....alot of questions already coming up...
