I feel embarrassed for asking questions, but do I have to strip the wire of the fan to get access to the end of the wire, or can I take it out of the connector? This is my first Game boy and I do not want to mess it up

You can do what you want. Both ways are right. Cut off the connector and strip the wire is more easy. The best way is to crimp female dupond connector on the fan and solder two pins in the board.

The wires are incredibly thin, if you can cut them out of the connector that would be easy and they can be soldered right up. Otherwise cut it as long as you can, and then you will find that if you tin the ends with solder the plastic cable ends will melt slightly and pull back.. you can also use your nails to remove the plastic from the wire.. it's so thin so just be careful.. in future boards I will be adding the connector (took me ages to find it) which should make life easier (I know it won't help you right now though)

Hi Kite,

By any chance would you be able to send a link to where to buy the fan connector you found or would you be able to sell a couple for those of us that might be interested in going that route?

The connector is tiny and is hard to fit on an existing board, as the connector need supports and such. Also I've not found anywhere to get it without being stupidly expensive or has a minimum order quantity of quite a lot.. best for now to solder :)

Does anyone know the name of the fan connector? I would like to get my hands on some. I just received my new fan from Kite and I would like to solder a jumper wire to the board and solder the female end of that style connector to the jumper wire. I'm using Hoolyhoo's fan cartridge so I need to be able to unplug the fan to separate both halves of the case. Thanks.

The FAN is some weird tiny 0.8mm pitch JST, I'm not sure on its part number.. i would recommend something like the "JST 1.25mm" connector/cables because you can get them in both male and female cables and are relatively small (obviously not for battery as they are low current)
