CSO adding lights

Post by goodBEan » Tue Feb 27, 2018 9:16 pm

I know I asked this before on the big pre-order thread and I cannot remember the answer or find it. So I have to ask it again.

I am considering adding some leds to my GBZ since its in a clear case. I know that it was recommended that I solder it into a test pad so that I can turn it on or off with a switch that is built in to the sword. What was the test pad and where was that switch?

These are the leds I plan on using.

Option 1: Switch yourself:

See this image, and in the bottom right there is a "3V3" and "GND" solder hole :)

Option 2: Use the spare switch on the bank of switches:

There is an unused switch on the switch bank, it is the 4th one which is now labelled "G-SWITCH" (shown below actually as "USB-SD-EN")
In the image below, you can see the test pad "G-SW" which is connected to it

When the switch is OFF, G-SW is 'floating' (not connected to anything)
When the switch is ON, G-SW is GND

This means that to put an LED you need to connect the + of the LED to something like the 3.3v pin above (or the one on the board nearby) and the - end to the G-SW pin. This means the switch is connecting it to GND or NOTHING (so rather than switching the + on/off it is switching the - on/off). Make sure to use a resistor, probably on the + side is best (so 3v3 -> resistor -> LED+ -> LED- -> G-SW)

Sorry if I'm being a pain in the ass for resurrecting this thread, but I checked all 16 pages of (what I thought was) the correct category.
I'm trying to do this same thing and add some LED button lights. If I use this option, will there be a possibility of switching the LEDs on/off with a mode+button combo? Or is that dip switch my only "actuator"?
I'd like to be able to turn the button backlights on and off depending on battery life. Would this be possible?
