Kite Circuit Sword Build - None of the buttons are working

Post by sygyzy » Fri Mar 30, 2018 9:43 pm

Hi,

I just completed my CSO build and it booted up on the first try. Charging seems to be working, as is wifi. My issue is when I start ES for he first time, I cannot configure my controller buttons. It says Controller Detected, Hold A. I hold A and nothing happens. I am using a A,B,X,Y configuration in the front. In the rear I am using Kite's back button board with just 2 buttons and I have Ground, L1, L2 wired up. I left the R1, R2, Ground wire harness unplugged and not soldered in. I am not using a PSP joystick.

Does anyone have any ideas on what I can check? I can imagine it being some button getting stuck or something but I've fiddled with everything and they all seem fine. I am using brand new buttons and pads. Any ideas, even if they seem obvious or silly are welcomed.

Thank you!

Edit: I did some more testing and it feels like it's acting like the Mode button is pressed in. However, I can confirm the button is not pressed in. I also took it apart and used a multimeter to test continuity. No beep when the button is left alone, and a beep when it's pressed. And a continuous beep when it's pressed and held.

I can enable and disable audio amp and wifi, and adjust brightness by pressing the appropriate buttons, but not having to press or hold the Mode button. This is all while sitting on the controller setup screen.

Edit 2: I fixed it! The problem was really simple and I am surprised others haven't come across this exact same issue. The two solder points of the mode button were shorting out on the USB plug. I put some kaptop tape on it and problem solved.
