SD Card not reading
SD Card not reading
Hi all,
Long time lurker here who’s got his hands on kites latest board (version 1.3a)
I’ve put it together to do a basic sanity check-all ok,but the first boot-nothing
Image downloaded from here....https://github.com/kiteretro/Circuit-Sword/releases
I’ve tried 2 different sd cards,pinching the card holder,cleaned cm3 contacts
Voltage test points are:
1v8-1.81v
3v3-3.29v
5v-5.00v
VCC-4.10v
Here’s some pics of the SD slot..
Any help would be much appreciated,I built a pi gameboy back in 2015 but this is a whole new ballgame for me
Thanks

Re: SD Card not reading
Hi! Good work on the checking and the pics, you may have seen that two other users have reported this issue:
https://github.com/kiteretro/Circuit-Sword/issues/68
https://github.com/kiteretro/Circuit-Sword/issues/64
I haven't received either of theirs yet so still not 100% sure on what the issue actually is.. but I suspect the SD connector.
Based on your pictures, the contacts on the inside of the SD connector look a little suspicious (like you can see at the top where the legs solder to the board that the pins of the SD connector seem to go further over the pad than they're meant to, which could mean that that are missing the proper solder to make a good contact with the PCB, which may have happened if the SD connector was moved by 1mm when manufacturing).
What is probably best is if you send me an email and include your full address, I will send you out a replacement on Monday and provide you with details on returning the faulty one to me (so that I can debug with the other ones).

Re: SD Card not reading
OK, have you flashed an image to a Pi before? Just to clarify, the download from my github page on the 'releases' tab, you download the .zip, extract it (important), and then use the resulting .img file with etcher. Not being patronizing because you've probably done it like that anyway, but just saying for clarity on the off-chance it isn't what you've done

No probs, definitely an image file on the SD that’s why I use etcher, you select the zip file then flash it to the SD card
That’s how the app works...https://etcher.io

Yep you've done it all good, something wrong with the board (there are a couple of other customers with same symptoms). Can you please send me an email with your address and i'll sort out a replacement

Re: SD Card not reading
Just wanted to add my voice to this thread as I probably have the same issue. Exactly the same actually.
@kite: I wrote you a mail on saturday with a photo. Not sure if it went through.
