RETRO PSU GB DMG SW

Post by DJJK » Wed Nov 06, 2019 7:04 am

So i tried to wire up the original GameBoy DMG switch. i needed a few tries but i figured it out. Then when i tried to wir it for final testing (everything on a breadboard) I destroyed my retro psu, because the solder pad of EN just came off. So there is no way i can solder a switch to it.
Is there any change a trough hole version of the Retro PSU can be sold?
because the wires keep coming off the pads, and as i apply more heat the pad came off. i tried to cut some trace away with an exacto knife but no luck. Here are some pictures:

if you cant expose the trace going to EN....

then the other alternative may be to have the switch connected to the 5V....
(you may have to use a different switch... depending on which switch your using)
it may not be exactly ideal for what you were trying to achieve....

but it will work....
and you'll still be able to use the RetroPSU.....

I’m trying to use the original gameboy dmg switch. I had a broken gameboy laying around so I desolderd all the parts I could use. Is there a better alternative for a switch?
Is it wise to have another go at cutting the EN trace?

I'm not sure if the original switch would or would not be suitable (i've never used it).....
especially as you might now be running the 5v through it....

i've personally used a switch like this in my builds.....

there shouldn't be any harm if you try to have a another crack at exposing the trace near the EN....
hopefully if you do then you can use that....
just be careful not to damage anything else while doing that

I sometimes use one of these to expose a trace
its a lot safe than having a go with some kind of scraping tool

Thanks for links of the switch and the scraping tool, i will definitely be getting those. But i decided to cut the trace some little further and it worked! i soldered a wire to the trace, because i didn't had any copper thin enough to repair the trace and the pad.
