would be awesome if we could get files to print out this case and actually make this gameboy
Oh my god that is sexy. :O Source? Wonder if there is a model file to be downloaded somewhere.skrapps914 wrote:would be awesome if we could get files to print out this case and actually make this gameboy

Yeah, that thing would be awesome. The tiny details like the nintendo embossing and stuff probably wouldn't come out that great, but still... I'd print print that.skrapps914 wrote:searched for a bit, could not find any model files for the gameboy 1up design. i wish i knew how to make my own models. i'd do it, starting by flipping the dmg model horizontal, and rearranging the face, and widening the screen.
Actually I'd probably use an HDMI screen. There are several that would fit it (in fact I have a 4.3" one that would work).skrapps914 wrote:thats awesome, i hope he does let you use them. not worried about the tiny embossed labels, those can all be done with waterslide decal, and them sealed on. this design looks like it would host component parts a lot better too, control pcb would be 2 or 3 parts, separated into small parts, its got the L/R buttons up top and all! i would love this shell, i'd sand it smooth to the touch, and make it look factory.

Now, as for printing an entire case... Just be aware that you are not going to be able to even approach the fit/finish of an original DMG case using FDM printing. I haven't even bothered to try printing one yet, although there are some more exotic materials like carbon fiber that have especially good dimensional stability and are very good at hiding layer lines and all that. That might be worth a try. But seriously with something like that it would be so much easier to just buy a replacement shell.
Anyway, welcome! Be sure to share your progress with us!
This is brilliant! Thank you for this I think to begin with, I'll try to get a simple case made, just to see how it feels and then when Im getting closer to actually completing this project, maybe adapt this design!Fleder wrote:https://grabcad.com/library/retro-nintendo-gameboy-1karthikrr wrote:1) Can somebody suggest the right search terms for google, so I can find an STL file for the original gameboy case that wermy started out with?
