3DS Cap that fits a PSP1000 - .STL

Post by markolomew » Mon Mar 05, 2018 2:19 pm

I love the compact size and shape of the PSP1000 joystick, but I hate the cap. I love the 3DS cap, but the body is way too large, so here is a combined .stl file with a 3DS cap on a PSP1000 body. Best of both worlds. Hopefully this will brighten your day!

File has been updated to include better scaling and tighter tolerances (thanks HoolyHoo).

Any chance you could reload your files - Cura. thinks they are over 100mm wide.

Also how do you plan on printing them?

I just double checked the files and they seem ok. What I'll do is measure the dimensions of the PSP fitting part (big rectangle) and give you that measurement, then you can figure your scaling. I agree, 100mm is just crazy. I'll get you better numbers shortly, but I'd guess the diameter of the 3ds circle is around 15mm.

As for how I plan on printing them, not sure what you mean, but I was thinking solid plastic then sand, or possibly abs and a vapor bath to get a smooth texture.

UPDATE:
Sizes measured with a ruler, I will remeasure with calipers shortly -
3ds cap diameter is 15mm.
PSP rectangular fitting is 4mm x 6mm

Thanks Mark for the this excellent idea. This makes the PSP feel much nicer. As you know the download had a scale issue as well as a tolerance problem so I took the liberty of just making one quickly from scratch. Works like a charm. Here is what the print looks like out of the printer.

I just finished placing it in one of my PSP brackets and tried it in a case after sanding the top to smooth the ridges lightly. It feels really smooth and works so much better than the OEM cap the PSP come with.

Kudos Mark :D

Hoolyhoo - Any chance you could upload the .stl file you used after fixing the scaling issue? What settings did you use to print it? I have trouble getting the settings for supports set correctly.
