grz82's vmu project

Post by grz82 » Sat Dec 14, 2019 11:43 am

Hi all!

I've been following this forum for awhile and all of the awesome builds here got me interested in putting together a few things of my own. I put together this vmu from a broken vmu I had laying around. I cut out the damaged part of the case to the right of the original screen and went from there.

I used the following bits to get this working:

-Adafruit MicroLiPo Charger
-Raspberry Pi Zero
-HiLetgo 1.44" SPI ST7735 Screen
-Adafruit Max 98357A Amp
-SPDT Slide Switch
-Tactile Micro Switches
-503035 500mAh battery
-Magnet wire and 30AWG Silicone wire
-I think the speaker is from Kite's kit

By pure luck, the status led for the charger lines up perfectly with the gap between the case and the screen that i filled with hot glue, so I can tell when charging is complete. The sound is perfect. Screen resolution is not great for reading text in retropie, but it's fine for most games.

The only issue I have (as shown in the screen pic) is the image on the bottom of the screen bleeds over to the top and flickers, and there is a row of pixels on the right. I've had no luck fixing this as any time I change the code from what I have, the screen looks worse.

Thanks in advance for any feedback!
