I already ask some of these questions on youtube, but as this is linked as the main information source for the contest, I will ask them here again.

Do we have to use the ESP32 or can we also use an ESP8266 module. These are cheaper and some of us may have one or two of those laying around. And do we have to use the Android-SDK/Libraries to program the ESP or can we also go for plain C (the espressif or better the esp-open-sdk)?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome! For this competition, so that everyone's on the same page it needs to be an ESP32. 8266 being cheaper is actually part of the reasoning for that - it you get a super cheap one that would free up some of the budget for other things. :)

Thanks! Okay, makes sense. However, can I use the esp-open-sdk eg. the open source clone of the native espressif sdk or do I have to go with the Arduino sdk?

Oh sorry, forgot that part. :) Like I say in the video, you can use whatever you like to program it. I just used Arduino in the video since it’s the most beginner-friendly in my opinion.

For the budget, say we have to buy 10 of something but only need 1 of them, would that mean that we include the cost of the 1 we used or the cost of all 10?
e.g. I got 10 PCBs for $5, does that mean I add $5 to my costs or $0.50?
