May I ask what specific mercury sensor you are using? I can only find them for ~$2-$3.

Turns out it has an 18-hour battery life.
I know 1000mAh was overkill, but it was the same height and width as the other components so made sense.

I've moved on from this project now. All the files can be found in this post viewtopic.php?f=67&t=6514 along with a complete list of parts you'll need and where you can get them

The pictures of it should be enough for you to figure out how it goes together, it's pretty much just soldering things into place and then putting some arduino code on it.
