GAME BOY 1UP (Florian Renner concept)
GAME BOY 1UP (Florian Renner concept)
Hi everybody.
Since I found out about @wermy project, I've been wondering if we could make something along the lines of Florian Renner's concept reality. It's an awesome design, one that combines retro appeal with a modern approach masterfully.
I still haven't finished my GBZ project (on a trip actually) but I'm just putting this out there in case it sparks anyones interest.
I'd guess that with a 3D printed case and most of GBZ's project parts, with the exception of a different screen maybe, it should be pretty simple, along the lines of the Wii U gamepad project.

I really love the clean design of this case and if I had a 3d printer I would definitely give it a shot. One of the problems I'm seeing would be figuring out a way to get the cartridges like that. I assume it would be possible to use a cartridge such as the r4 or a modded ds game and one of the spring cartridge slots to allow you to boot retropie directly off of it. Definitely an interesting concept and I would love to look into this more once I finish my GBZ project.

I don't think it could be that hard to come up with our own measurements, based on the screen we want to use.
I would probably want a square screen since everything we could play in it was released in a square-like ratio. With a 5" or even the same 3"5 in the GBZ, you could set the measurements for the rest of the thing. Designing this from scratch, the interior could have little poles meant to be used as a docking system for parts, making it easier to make.
On the other hand, I don't think cartridges are needed. I'd just make a little hole for a microSD card and be done with it.
¿Do we have an experienced modeler here who could chime in an give us some insight in how difficult this could be? I'm doing some blender courses right now but I'm afraid I'm a novice.

I'd love to be able to build something like this. Off to learn Fusion 360...
