Transferring ROMS using USB

Which system are you trying to emulate? Some of them can be finicky. If it's a MAME or FBA rome for example, it'll do exactly what you're describing if the ROMs are from an unsupported rom set. You'll also get this kind of behavior if you are using something like GBA without a bios.

Also I think there *is* a power menu option for "Restart Emulationstation," isn't there? Or am I crazy?

Yeah I AM experiencing with MAME and ALL of my GBA emulators. Whats bios? I bet this is what Im missing since all my GBA games are exactly alike.

I thought I was crazy for a second but all of my Super Nintendo games work perfectly.

(sidenote/ does anyone know how to delete games off the PI0? I now have 3 pokemon fire reds trying to see if it was because of the ROM- I delete them on my USB stick but they just keep adding up on my PI- anything helps fellas!)

Ah hah. You probably just need the GBA bios file. I can't link to it here, it's copyrighted. But a quick google should dig it up pretty easily. It should be in .bin format. Plop it in /home/pi/RetroPie/BIOS and name it gba_bios.bin.

As for mame, you'll want to get roms from the 0.37b5 mame rom set.

Every time Ive tried ive gotten this image at the beginning and the blank blinking screen seems to continue.

Ive tried with 2 different Bios files one that was a .7z and another was .pkg

followed instructions

USB stick folder retropie/bios and dumped it there

Yeah thats why It wasnt working but I accidentally double clicked on a bios file and it became bin.. *then I thought to myself why does that sound familiar.. oh duh because @wermy had already mentioned it!!! haha

Im scared to completely put my PI in because I have been transferring all my Roms via USB (flash Drive) will I still be able to do this later? or do I need to transfer all the games I want before I completely put the PI in? thanks again..

Well don't forget, if you're following the guide you'll have an external USB port, so you can continue to add roms that way. The SD card adaptor is really just an extension for the one that is on the pi itself, so it has the OS and everything on it.

I'm not sure you can add roms this way actually. I tried doing that and couldn't figure out where to put them since the filesystem is kind of strange.

I realize that this is focusing on the USB, but have you thought about buying a wifi dongle? Once you get it setup (not complicated at all and $10), it is a matter of opening a file browser on windows and typing //retropie. Then doing a transfer from your computer to the roms folder. Easy as pie!

Seriously though, once I have internet set up on my pie, this is the preferred method to transfer lots of files. Plus, I can visually see the transfer.
