I've had a look at the meta data for the video, everything seems to be outputting in 4:3 for the full length, wondering if this could be when it alters the output for Emulation Station to match the display. Either that or its the actual Emulation Station loading screen? I may be able to tell from the video you sent but couldn't view it, did you copy the URL or create shared link?

Try that one. It's not the ES loading screen as that comes in at the end.

Yes I see what you mean now, the white bands that you see at the side are actually the Emulation Station loading screen in the background, when you have your screen connected to your GBZ you won't see these, the idea is that the Splash Screen should play for long enough that it will cover the Emulation Station loading screen all the way until it loads the Emulator XMB... which it doesn't. I'll need to extend it again by a few more seconds tomorrow. How long was the Emulation Station screen on for after that? it should give me a good idea how long I need to extend it by.

Mines lasts for 15 more seconds after the video ends. I am using an old 8gb sd that I found in my drawer. A better card would probably be a lot faster.

That is a LOT longer than I anticipated. The RPi 2 should only need a 20 second splash and the RPi Zero should be faster, not as fast as the 3 though. What card speed do you have? For example C2? C10? U3?

Everyone's build will have a different boot time, even if all were using pi zero's. Maybe there is some way to run consecutive videos until the emulationstation screen comes up as you could hide the boot text then. One video of the animation, then another with a still frame from the end of the animation playing in a loop until booted.

I've not looked into it but perhaps this would enable video files to be run one after the other?
Manually Edit Splashscreen List: You can edit the splashscreen.list manually to point to multiple images to be played as a slideshow (you'll use tab to get out of edit mode)
From here:
https://github.com/retropie/retropie-se ... lashscreen

Or one video could be made... maybe being 10seconds long or so with the boot animation, and the rest taken up by a 'slideshow' of a still showing the last frame of the boot video, people could then customise it for their specific boot time.

Nice bit of research there @Zero , I'll make a minor adjustement to the splash tomorrow before I upload it again, this should make it easier to implement if what you have mentioned works as we would hope.

Apologies for the delay in uploading a new version of the longer splash screen, I'm researching the best way to present this to cover the boot text to allow for different boot lengths.

For what it's worth, the ~20second version hides all the boot text for me when I have my Wifi adapter connected to my GBZ. If it's not connected, it apparently tries searching for my network and slows down the boot by another 10 seconds or so.

I haven't tried it, but maybe removing the wifi connection in the RetroPie configs after you get everything set up might make it work dependably.
