exiting roms causes video problems

Post by Fleder » Fri May 13, 2016 10:07 am

Hi there!

I've got a strange problem here, with 2 different displays, so i guess it is a software thing?
Everytime i exit a rom with Start+Select, the screen of one 4:3 display starts going black and flickering while the 16:9 display shows a picture, bit really cut off and while exiting i can read something with using "hdmi" settings, then it exits to emulation station.

Has someone got an idea what this may be caused by?
It is really annoying if you have to restart the Pi every time to get the video back to normal.

Thanks

Huh, that's weird -- I haven't had any problems with video after exiting roms. Any chance you could put up a video somewhere of it?

Sure, sorry for the long waiting time.

Here is the 3,5" display. At 0:13 I hit start+select:

The screen goes black and flashes.

And here the 5" display, start+select at 16 seconds:

The screen does not go black but is cut off and deferred.

Ooohhh so the whole backlight and everything, then? That's actually what was happening to me with one of the backup screens that I gave up on using. It also flashed for me like that during a few parts of the boot process (where it sits on the RetroPie logo) as well as some menus in games. Can you try out Doom (it should be under the Ports menu) and see if it flashes during some of the menus in that game?

Everything was fine here, even exiting it did not make the screen do the same as it did in SNES Emulator.
I tried the other emulators and the only one doing this is the SNES Emulator. That's strange.

That's really weird. I wonder if the screen is drawing too much power at that moment (or maybe the composite output 'flickers' on and off), and that's why everything flashes... :|

Ufff. Second one looks like some type of video mode issue. Were you editing any RetroPie config files? Is this a new problem or has it always been like this?

It is powered by 5V 2A, should be fine, right?

Yes, i was editing several config files to make the picture/video fit the screens size.
But this has always been the case. But i could try to change them back to default.
I hope I can remember all the files i changed.
