Hey guys,

I have like some others here also a problem with my sound of my build which is too quiet.

I'm using a RPI2 together with Helders v2.2 board. I wired the potentiometer with the RPI2 test pads (PP25/26, RPIs left/right to potentiometers left in/right in) and then the potentiometer with helders board (GND/left out/right out, skipped the PWM circuit since I'm not using PWM due to the capabilities of the RPI2).

I used my multimeter to figure out the pinout of my 10k potentiometer (I'm using this B103 model):
  • Pin 1: GND
  • Pin 2: IN Channel1
  • Pin 3: IN Channel2
  • Pin 4: Out Channel 2
  • Pin 5: Out Channel 1
As a speaker I'm using a 3W 8Ohm one which I grabbed from Sony Ericsson MPS60 (https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B000FI ... UTF8&psc=1)

Here a picture of my wiring (I know that I switched left/right out, fixed that already):
Image (click to zoom)

What I tried so far:
  • Raising volume in alsa mixer to 100 (what makes the sound very scratchy) or in emulationstation (raises the same mixer for me)
  • swapping input/output at the potentiometer
  • Tried another potentiometer (but all are working fine when I double check them with my multimeter)
  • Swapped +/- of the speaker
Has anyone a hint for me? It seems like, the amplifier doesn't "boost" the sound, it is as quiet as I would connect the speaker directly to the RPI2s test pads...

Thx in advance! :)
Lars

Are you applying power to the AIO? If it's getting no power the amplifier chip can't work. Some people have replaced a few resistors to increase the loudness a few pages back, worth a try.

Yes I do, I'm using the powerstrip of the AIO for my screen and it's on during my tests - also the buttons are working :)
Another finding: If I plug some headphones to the jack, it's super loud and noisy (bad quality)... Will do some investigation regarding the resistors... Or is it worth to switch to PWM?

UPDATE:
I just bridged R17/R18 and the volume raised a bit, but it's still too silent... Is there any way to figure out if the amp is working? would be a pity if it doesn't...

UPDATE2:
Maybe my expectations are just too high, what do you think about the volume of my bild in this video: https://youtu.be/qQMy9SdahHc
I know, it's hard to determine how loud it is in real... but it is yours louder from this distance (max volume)?

Hello
I recived the all in one, the last week. I connected to Raspberry and didn't work. I desoldering and my all in one, track desoldering. I speak with my friend and He repair, search other point for soldering. But my all in one, continue without work. Any solution?
I attached my solution! Any help?
Sorry for my english!

Are you sure the wires are connected properly on the Pi? post pictures of your whole setup not just the repair that was done. Is the board being powered? Show pictures of Pi and where the usb wires are soldered to. Also test the controller on a PC using the usb connections you normally connect to the Pi.

If you want help we need information and pictures or we can;t figure out what your doing or what is wrong.

If the headphones are loud then the amp is working, likely the speaker isn't expected to be super loud (unless it's a high end one like posted elsewhere on the site) and don't bridge the resistors otherwise there will improper mixing and distort the audio further.

Try the below with a couple 100ohm resistors, boosted my volume about 10 times it is now at a level you can actually hear it. Waiting for my upgraded speaker now so it will be even better.

I attach my connections with the raspberry.
When I recived, I connected all in one in my raspberry and didn´t work and I tried with the pc and did not recognize it either.
Thanks for your help.

First off the wiring is wrong and you didn't twist the usb wires, 2nd I have no idea if those soldered on wires have a good connection or not and they might be shorted to one of the GND pads near the PP22 and PP23 (hard to tell in the picture).

Look at the image below for the proper wiring of USB.

Is wma 1 and 0 the same as audio l and r? Using a pi3, so i dont need to use gpio.

Im having trouble connecting a joystick to the board. It wont recognize the movements, the wires should be connected properly, any ideas on troubleshooting?

I assume you mean PWM 0 and PWM 1 and yes it is the same as L and R audio, you can just add the L and R to the volume wheel first 2 pins then wire the pins 3-5 to the AIO.

Controller comes programmed for no analog stick and if you want to use the analog stick you need to reprogram it, go to the "Other Hardware" subforum and look for the threads I posted to program the board with Arduino IDE. You need to connect it to a PCB with a usb cable or use a USB Programmer (USBasp) as that will be easier in my opinion. Be sure to read through the whole thread especially the Arduino IDE thread as it has important info towards the end of it.
