I'm hoping someone can help me with this before I break warranty on some components.
I'm attempting to build an RP3 into an old Gameboy Pocket my sister had laying around. My goal here is to add a single joystick, use the largest screen possible (which seems to be the 2.8" PiTFT Plus from Adafruit, and still have access to HDMI out.
The problem I'm running into is that the drivers for the PiTFT Plus wreck HDMI out to a display. I can either have a completely black PiTFT or have HDMI-out. Does anyone know if it's possible to get both working?
As it stands now, I have one LG display that will actually display ES when I plug in the modified Pi (stepped down to a horrible resolution), but I can't even get command line access to it that way, as it pops up with a weird message (something like "Map: 1>0b" or something).
Please let me know if anyone has actually managed to use a PiTFT from Adafruit and kept HDMI out.
Thanks in advance for your help!
Use PiTFT and keep HDMI out? (RP3 in GBP)
Re: Use PiTFT and keep HDMI out? (RP3 in GBP)
Hey there! I don't know if I can help you with your specific issue however if you use an SSH client (remote access ) you can login to the command line that way. I use chrome and if you look up secure shell (an app for chrome) you can use that to login to the pie from another computer on the network.
I have had a similar msg on my neosec screen and it was due to a line in the config.txt telling the pi to only output in hdmi.
Hope that helps some, I don't know if you will end up being able to have both displays going at the same time. I know I was unable to with my neosec screen (http://www.neosecsolutions.com/products.php?28)

If you try the HDMI direct from boot. The pi will tend to switch to component output if there is no HDMI cable there on boot.
Another issue is that the resolution might be set in the pi to make it more suited to the TFT, and the HDMI screen you are using might not be happy with that resolution
How did you install the software for the screen?

Get a small cheep LCD in your project https://www.sudomod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=2312
Wrap it all round a battery https://www.sudomod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2292
Or use a custom PCB to make it really small https://www.sudomod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2512
or make it really really really really tiny!! https://www.sudomod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2919

Re: Use PiTFT and keep HDMI out? (RP3 in GBP)
Thanks for reaching out - but I ended up completely changing the project because it wasn't possible to use that PiTFT screen and HDMI at the same time (plus it was likely to be too large for a GBP). I'm not using a full-on GB shell and a 3.5" screen. Because I connect directly via component (PP24), I don't need to worry about software!moosepr wrote:If you try the HDMI direct from boot. No problem man. It is possible to have both together. I made a guide for a different model of TFTGMoney wrote:Thanks for reaching out - but I ended up completely changing the project because it wasn't possible to use that PiTFT screen and HDMI at the same time (plus it was likely to be too large for a GBP). Basically during writing the guide, I had the pi connected with a HDMI monitor and keyboard, then in the end I also had the TFT screen on too. The process that puts the image on the TFT basically just copies the current display
