Orange Pi PC

Got my Orange Pi PC (16.50$) today and it is pretty hot.



I even got a RetroPie Image that works with it, which was released a few days ago.

Here are the specs:

As soon as i got my hands on a HDMI Adapter (I only have Mini HDMI or DVI),
i will give it a try and tell you if the Orange Pi family finally became a viable alternative to the Raspberries.

I can't figure out the power consumption yet, as i have no way of measuring it, but I will cover everything I can.
This could be interesting since there are new smaller Orange Pis out there.
For instance, the Orange Pi Lite for 12$ with only 69mm × 48mm.

It's definitely not plug in and go, but with some help from a facebook group, I was able to boot it up.
Update: Not anymore. For RetrOrangePi Versions 2.5.x and above, it is as simple as burning the image and turning the OPi on.

As it finally booted, it started into Emulation Station automatically, as we know it from the standard RetroPie Image.
Really nice! I have to test the emulators tomorrow and will get back to you all.

Today I tested the Orange Pi PC with different Emulators and it worked without any problems.

I only tried Die Hard a short time, but I could play it smoothly as if i had played it on my PSX here.

I would love to try more, but I can't seem to get my WIFI Stick to work with it and the USB Sticks I have are not working either,
so I have to mount the SD Card with Paragon ExtFS and copy them onto it on windows, which is kind of slow, as you can imagine.

I have to try more USB Sticks to see if they are defective or if it is the OPi PC Image that has problems with USB Hardware.
But the Keyboard worked without any hassle, so far.

Have you tried installing Linux on a spare pc? I dusted off an old laptop I had in storage and put Ubuntu on it so I could read and write files onto my raspberry pi SD cards, it saves a lot of time

Thanks, but i do not have a spare one around and i won't change the sd card that often once i set up everything, so it is not that bad, i guess.

Why not try to create a Gameboy with this board as alternative for the raspberry?
