For the record I've not had any issues here.

If you do rip a USB pad, Helders provided the schematic of this Soundcard where your wire needs to go. My actual technique is one i use with the USB hubs on GBZs and basically involves carefully removing the outer metal then again, carefully rocking the usb and pins back and forth. These then snap off but leave a small raised pin which i snip. Less heat applied to the board and less stress IMO.

As for the crystal, most aren't actually flush with the board so finger nail underneath allows the pin to slide out when heated from the other side. When they are flush i use a thicker tip on my iron and heat the solder joint then push from the back to create a gap and repeat the finger nail prying.

👍🏼

I second this. I had to use this method as I lost 2 USB pads on my sound card. Still works like it didn't happen. Good luck.

I purchased the compact desolder tool that Helder suggested and was able to desolder all the pieces without wrecking anything. Woot!

poor pic but you get the idea...

However when I was cleaning up I burned my pinky on the iron. DOH!
