Make dpad more sensitive? Screen brightness?
Make dpad more sensitive? Screen brightness?
I bought one of these units https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0wnEU5CoWG8 however the Dpad isn't as sensitive as I'd like, if you gently push down one direction you can basically almost push all the way down before the input registers and you get very little tactile feedback, I compared it to original gameboy, you feel clicky feedback much sooner with the original gameboy, there's almost no clicky feedback with this unit. Vita for another example has the best feeback, almost instant clicky feedback when you push a direction slightly. This is more apparent in fighting games with fireball motions etc. Is there a way to swap the gummy pads with more sensation one or mods to make it better? Also the screen seems like its at mid brightness, I' assuming the screen is like that but I would like to know if its possible to change it via software like config file or something.
I know very little about modding if its not already apparent but I think I should be able to do something as basic as swapping out a dpad or modding it.

Hi Meego,
I'm doing the same build, I just tested the dpad briefly and it does have a long travel distance before clicking down.
What I think you (or we) need to do is shorten the distance the dpad has to trave before it hits the silicone pad. Maybe add some hot glue on all four ends? maybe glue something to it?
As for the screen, you should tell people what screen it is
I'm guessing you have this one with some parts of the board removed?

I fried mine while soldering, but the image was pretty good when it worked imo. I wouldn't know a way to change brightness though, but others might.

Re: Make dpad more sensitive? Screen brightness?
right, I'm considering swapping it for another dpad or maybe (like you said) gluing something to it to make it more sensitive. AS for the screen, it's funny how I didnt notice until I got the unit, that its fairly dim, maybe mid brightness on a dslite. Whites looks like greys etc. It's fairly apparent on pics https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BxxTDm ... 1zRU0/view I think the unit would be perfect it I could make the screen brighter and fix the dpad. I've been sorta spoiled because I've been emulating on a Vita which has an amazing screen and great dpad.Fredl wrote: ↑Mon Sep 04, 2017 9:20 amHi Meego,

It's DIY after all. I'm sure Sony does a better job at creating haptics for their units than the amateurs that we areMeego wrote: ↑Mon Sep 04, 2017 12:11 pm

You should give the dpads at handheldlegend a shot.

The dpad is in 2 parts, outer and inner, and I think you could just stuff something inside before putting the inner part in which would solve the problem. Here's a picture of the dpads:

You can glue some of that rubber stuff on there, the stuff you use to repair your bicycle tires with, but don't take too thick.
For example you can cut some nice rounds, and glue them ontop of the other rubber pads. Remember, dont go too thick, best to test some first before glueing them in there forever. they can also go in the bottom of the button itself, as there is some little space left over.
You could use these, but you also have them with a little scroll of rubber, to cut on any size, i prefer these. but this should do to, cut a little round out of the middle portion.

Re: Make dpad more sensitive? Screen brightness?
Im in California, but I appreciate the offer. I'll open her up and see if maybe I can stick my original GB dpad in there or try the glue trick. I don't think I'll need the guide unless it mentions anything interesting about tinkering with the brightness of the screen. lol thank anywayFredl wrote: ↑Mon Sep 04, 2017 12:51 pmIt's DIY after all. You dont happen to be located in germany? If so, I could send you a blue, green or grey dpad from HHL (see pictures).SpoilerShowhhl.JPG

Re: Make dpad more sensitive? Screen brightness?
I cut strips of electrical tape and stuck it underneath all four directions of the dpad. Increased the haptic responses perfectly. I think I used 2 or 3 strips per direction.

There's alot of work in the 1up kit, i like it. but as critical as i can be, i really don't like these screws poking out on the sides that really ruins it imo.
I would use different screws and ''sunk them'' in there.
