[Gauging Interest] Multi-colored faceplates for Mintypi

Post by petran1420 » Fri Oct 27, 2017 10:46 pm

Hi all,

I've been tinkering a little with the faceplate .stl, and in addition to adding a pre-printed hole for the function button, i messed with the layer depths a bit to pull off a 3-color faceplate. So a base color, and 2 more colors for the raspberry sepals and drupelets:

I think they look pretty nice! And that color scheme in particular would look good with the new red buttons. I can also do 2-tones:

Just wondering if anyone would be interested in these, instead of the single color option currently offered by wermy. Let me know!

It looks nice. Here’s my two cents though.

Maybe the OP should PM Wermy before offering this as he is the original creator of the STL intended to be offered, especially since Wermy himself has offered this custom service to some forums members upon request.

Just seems like the right thing to do. ;)

That's a good point! I'll see what Wermy thinks. Even if he's not into it, I'd be happy to release my modified .stl and instructions, for anyone who wants to do this themselves.

I'm really digging the multi colors, I really like the top one teal/red one.

Thanks! I'm waiting on a response from Wermy about printing out limited quantities of these for interested parties. I'm a little embarrassed about jumping the gun and gauging interest before checking in with him first. I'll probably make an instruction guide soon regardless, once I finish my current project of a 3d printed, 2-tone game of thrones coaster set :)

I think I deserve at least 2 flogs :)

I actually just got a response from Wermy asking not to make these commercially available, which is totally understandable. In a few days I'll make a post on the hardware section of the MintyPi forum with a link to my modified .stl file and instructions on how to multicolor print. Maybe I'll include a giveaway if it gets a good response!
