Post by mnelliot » Wed Nov 22, 2017 7:31 pm

Image sooo yeah accidentally burned off 2, the others work fine but is there anything else I can solder the wires to or should I buy a new card?

There are a couple stickied threads that have alternative solder points labeled. That board looks cooked.... I think you need you invest in a temp controlled iron.

@drydra123 Could you highlight these alternative solder points? Pretty new to these kinds of projects so I'm actually using an iron from a neighbor to connect everything, definitely will buy a temp controlled iron for the next project, thanks for the recommendation!

It would also be a good idea to trim down those exposed wires. The exposed section should be as short as possible, to avoid potential shorting risks.

definately shorten the exposed wires, should only need a few mm exposed and it is fixable if you solder to the alternate points. I would also cover the connections with some hot glue, after you have confirmed that it is working to prevent the wires from falling off. Soldering to those resistors does not always yield the best connection.

Can I also ask what size of wire you are using? Is it me, or does it look like solid core, and a pretty thick wire? Or are the tips just tinned to make them seem solid. Either way, just curious.

Also noticed that you're using solid core wires. You'll definitely want to replace them with stranded core. Solid core wire is not flexible enough for you to be able to close the tin. Also, because it's so rigid, if you do get it to close you may break a connection or a pad.
