First power on test - USB / Arduino fail

Post by hobby68 » Sat Jan 13, 2018 1:31 pm

I received my SAIO last fall, but I finally started assembly this week. (sub zero temps keep one inside)

I'm at the "First power on test" section on the wiki here: https://github.com/geebles/Super-AIO/wi ... SAIO-v0.6c
I get an image and things boot, but the Arduino / USB all say FAIL. I've redone the USB (and now, all the solder pads) a few times per the instructions, but it continues to fail. Anything else I can test?

Pics? Does the "USBHUB" LED turn on? With a multimeter in resistance mode, what is the resistance of the DP and DM pads to GND (and also to each other)?

Sounds like either USB not soldered, or USB shorted, the results from above will help determine which :)

You'll have to forgive me, I'm not very familiar with measuring resistance, this is withOUT power, correct?

DM to Ground: 8640
DP to ground: 8600
DP to DM: I can't get a good reading

Thanks for the help!

Also, where is the USB hub LED?

In your pictures, to the LEFT of the LCD connector. There is a black chip with lots of legs, it's just to the right of that. This is what it should look like when powered on:

EDIT: Also those resistance values, you need to put the units in because they are not useful otherwise :) e.g. is that in ohms, kohms?

The resistance values were 8.6 with the multimeter set to 20k, so that's 8600 ohms....right?

Will power up again and check USB hub LED this evening.

Multimeters that don't have auto-ranging like that one you'll need to read your user manual, but that's what i would assume it's reading 'up to 20k' which would be 8.6k which seems ok..

I'll get you another picture to try and probe for later tonight

You need to test continuity between these pins:

If all fails and the USB traces are ruined on the SAIO, this is what needs to be done to bring USB back, not saying it's what you need to do because as long as the USB pads are intact, you should be able to re-work..
