[Interest Check] USB Button Board

Post by chaosratt » Tue Jan 23, 2018 6:03 pm

So I went and made a thing. I actually designed it over a year ago, but I'm lazy and I never actually made it, until now.

Image

It's essentially a common ground button board + arduino Leonardo smashed together.

The photo above is is the v1.0, but I have some samples of the v1.2 coming in the next few days, and the v1.4 design is already done.

What it can do: It's detected by Windows & Linux (Yes that includes retropie) as a simple 14-button USB gamepad. That's it, nothing fancy. No USB Hub, no audio amp, no battery monitor. Just USB-ready buttons.

Short term plans:
Analog support - Partially completed, v1.4 pins out 6 available analog lines for hackers/tinkerers to exploit, but are not supported "out of the box".

Long term goals (V2? v3?)
USB Hub
USB Audio
Battery monitor integration?

Right now I'm working with the far-smarter-than-I peeps on the Discord to iron out some kinks I ran into, but initial plans are to have about 10 of the v1.2 available for sale in 2 weeks. I'm thinking about $25 each.

Thoughts, criticisms, concerns?

That sounds awesome, trying to wire with a Leonardo was a disaster for me.

Very nice. You should give acces to all pins of the 32u4 with solder holes or pads.

I would be VERY interested in a Version with USB-DAC, amplifier and USB hub!!! A battery monitor build-in would be amazing as well!

Looks great, clean and simple.
Pilotholes for drilling the extra buttons would be a welcome adition.

The problem is most fab houses don't want to drill through copper, so I'd have to re-design the pad the same way Helder did to get around it.

That's on a *very long* term wish list right.
