Finishing 3d parts

Post by Gambit » Sat May 12, 2018 1:32 am

Hi folks,
I have some abs 3d parts that I want to finish and paint. I am new to this and I am unsure which products are needed to achieve a smooth painted look? I am based in the UK. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Cheers 👍

You could wet sand them, going finer in grit each time all the way up to 4000 or so. I also heard about using acetone vapors to smooth ABS. I have watched videos on youtube showing both. You should be able to fins them pretty easy.

I've seen the acetone vaper done but not sure about this as a couple of parts are for mechanical use so don't want the parts to change size - (even slightly). I will try the wet sanding approach and then paint. Does anyone know of a good primer for 3d printed parts?

I am using automotive grade products for primming, and coating. It’s a German brand named Spray Max.
I am using 2k components.

Start sanding 200, two times, then priming, then sanding again 200, then priming, then sanding again 200, then priming, then sanding again 200.
It’s almost perfect then for painting.
