Gameboy Pi 3B+ / Joy-con / HDMI / Retro PSU

Post by Flowuz » Wed Nov 14, 2018 2:40 pm

I’ve buid a Gameboy with a Raspberry pi 3B+ inside.

Still tweaking a couple off thinks to optimize the gaming experince. Loving the Joy-Con analoge stick and the psp analoge stick is oke. Also on screen battery indication is a real plus point. Hope they will give a update so the hot key’s will work with the usb controller (pro-micro).

The HDMI screen is doing oke but the refresh rate is still not fast enough, what’s oke is the menu to adjust the brightness/contrast/saturation and volume.

Headphones only, maybe in the fututure i will build in little amp and speakers. But for now it’s oke to reduce some power

Building list:

-Helder’s retro PSU (powerboost)
-5000 MaH lipo Battery
-HDMI screen
-Fan 30x30x10
-Raspberry Pi 3 B+
-Pro-Micro
-Homemade HDMI cable
-Joy-con and PSP analoge sticks
-FPC-6P 0.5MM connector (Joy con)
-Button PCB
-Just the regular (after market shell/knobs/etc.)

Still to do (maybe):

-Replace the psp analoge stick with a Joy-Con.
-Update with a better HDMI screen in the future
-Amp and speakers
-Analoge Volume pot

1. VCC
2. Up/Down
3. Push (button)
4. Ground
5. Left/Right

Hope it helps you, it playes prety well.

This looks awesome! I have been wanting to build one of these with a pi 3B+. Would you happen to have any pics of the inside and how you arranged the guts that you would be willing to show?

I too would be really interested to see inside this build, amazing what you've crammed in there without an all in one board. Please could I also know which HDMI screen you used and why you chose it over say a composite 640x480 screen. Thanks and keep up the great work!

Thanks guy’s, here some pictures from the inside. Still a lot off hot-glue. Hope to get a 3d printer this year, so i can design cool brackets. Alway’s thinks to do with the next build.

Also put a pre-amp / speaker / analog volume pot in the already overloaded inside. Pfff but it’s still closing oke.
