Mounting screen bracket with 2-sided M3 tape

Post by FireFoxGR » Sun Feb 03, 2019 12:39 pm

Dear all,

as the title says, I am thinking about using an M3 2-sided tape (2mm or 6mm most probably) on my original transparent GB Case (don't want to use hot glue for the obvious reasons).

I will use HoolyHoo's bracket and I plan to place the M3 tape on the sides and on the down side of the bracket where it has the most space.

I am wondering if anyone else has tried that before and if the bracket is secure eventually.. Any ideas?

rather than using 3M tape or something similar.....

your better of using a clear epoxy (gorilla glue or similar)....
its been used by other members with great success (IMO)....

and you wont have any issues
(its also what I use in my builds, but they're not clear cases/shells)

Thanks, I am wondering though, if you glue it with epoxy and need to re-glue it later (or change the bracket itself) if there will be any marks, or leave it in an "unrecoverable" state

Use 3M VHB 2mm. It is clear and is VERY strong. I use it in all of my builds and I have never had a failure. It's a very clean solution.

the epoxy is a permanent fix...
you wont be able to remove the screen bracket one the epoxy has properly cured
(theres no going back, without possibly butchering things up)

can you clarify that you use the 2mm tape for the screen bracket
(which holds the screen in place and also has the screw post)

and maybe show some images
also provide a link for a "clear" 2mm VHB tape

thanks

Would be also interesting to see how this turned out

Do you have any links on amazon on which one you used?
Thanks

Yes, 2mm tape for the screen bracket. I put it on the face of the bracket and install it into the front case half. It works great and still allows for disassembly although it is not easy. This stuff is so strong that if I tighten the case screws too much the front of the case will distort rather than the tape letting go! I do not currently have any pictures, but I will take some of my next build and post them. Here is the link from ebay where I purchased the tape.

Thanks for that, I am willing to try although I can't seem to find 2mm in European stores. Do you think maybe a bit thicker would do the job (3-4mm)?

I guess it would be a gamble. Maybe 3mm, but I think 4mm might be too wide. Forgot to mention that I also used some on the backside of the screen to keep it from shifting any in the bracket. Works really well.

If you have any pics that you can share it would be appreciated

I have ordered 1mm and 2mm VHB tapes, let's see how this goes!

I will post the result here when I have it ready.
