Question about affixing the fan.

Post by Kross64hero » Wed Apr 24, 2019 7:22 pm

From the github:
Stick the fan to the Raspberry Pi Compute Module 3 Lite using double-sided foam tape. Solder the fan wires to the '+' and '-' solder pads next to the fan connector then cover the back side contacts with Kapton tape.
  • Which contacts do I cover with Kapton tape? The top of the '+' and '-' pads?
  • And will any double sided foam tape work? Or does it have to be special?

The kapton bit was really to cover older versions that used through hole solder points. There was an issue if they came in to contact on the back of the LCD screen. If you have the V1.3 you shouldn't need to do anything, but it was meant to go on the 'back' of the board (the side with the buttons on).

Any foam tape will work, just some way to affix it. The foam tape is slightly spongy so makes it easier to stick on top of the components etc :) use your best judgement, these are only guidelines!

Awesome. If the bottom of the fan is completely blocked by tape, that wont affect airflow too much right?

No not too much, the main intake is the larger side where you can see the blades clearly. Covering the bottom may make it 'whine' slightly but test it out and see :)
