R button not working

Post by Feynamn1 » Mon May 06, 2019 11:52 pm

I've tested the solder between the power board and the shoulder board and there is a connection. The L button is working fine, and has a connection to the pi. There's also a connection between the appropriate pinhole on the pi and the R test pad on the button board. I'm worried that that the problem is the wire harness or the connectors. How to test if this is indeed the problem?

Look in to each of the harness ports on each of the boards and make sure none of the pins are bent like so:

If none of the pins are bent, plug the wiring harness in completely and try testing for continuity between the R pad and the pi GPIO pin.
If none, try from the R pad to the test pad.
Next, from the R pad to the pins of the plastic connector on the controller board side:

(I think it's one of the 2 to the right of that image but you can just drag your multimeter across all of them and see if you get continuity.)
Next, try it on the connector on the power board side.

Let us know where continuity stops.

Well I found the problem. The connector pin on the power board for R is bent right along the edge of the connectors side. I don't know if it's even possible to straighten it.

You'll probably have to cut a piece of the plastic off like I did in that repair and then take something small and pointy (I used a safety pin) to carefully get under it and straighten it. The connection should still be pretty snug afterwards.

How did you remove the plastic without messing with the remaining pins?

Well I was able to straighten out the pin with just a safety pin like you said without cutting away any plastic. Shoulder buttons are now working.
