Looking for advice on my 1st Gameboy 3b+ build.

Post by DaRk_dOg » Wed Nov 27, 2019 4:14 am

Hello everyone!

I am a new member and looking for some advice (regarding my 1st Gameboy Build). I have tried posting this in the "general" section, but maybe that was incorrect.. Anyways, I have watched a very detailed tutorial from Adam Builds and it was my kickstart to my personal project. I have made a schematic (according to the video instructions) and I would appreciate any improvement suggestions and/or points of where I might have been wrong on this.
PS: I will base my build on tinkerboy pcbs and the backboard helper from 8-bitcustoms, since I plan for the most clean build possible.

May I suggest our daddelkischde 2 AIO board? It has all the features included in one single board and supports the Pi 3 A+ (no need to strip down a 3 B+). Check my signature for more details.

Thank you floppes, for your kind suggestion, but I already have a spare 3b+ stripped down and waiting for the rest parts (which I have already ordered!).
I just have some slight concerns regarding the setup (or a couple of improvements to it) but thanks anyway :)

Best regards, D_d

All right, no worries ;)

I noticed just a little cosmetic error in your setup: The blue wire going to L_IN on the right board should go to L_OUT and the yellowish wire should go to L_IN instead of L_OUT. One end of each wire should be IN, the other end should be OUT. But it probably won't make any functional difference.

Make sure you use thick wires for 5V and GND. Solder them nicely to the boards to make them very low-resistive.

Thank you for your time, Indeed I copied it wrong by Adam Builds' schematic, thanks for pointing that out!
I will use 24AWG for 5V/GND, 26AWG for everything else and also I plan on using JST PH 2.0 for all cable to cable connections and, if I manage it, I will use braided sleeve for the cables (unless it makes them too thick).

Much appreciated, Best regards D_d
