SNES Buttons

Post by segueyer » Thu Jun 30, 2016 1:29 am

I got this SNES controller on Amazon hoping to use the buttons on my build. As you can see the buttons are very small compared to the DMG buttons. Should I just order another controller? Or is this the normal size for SNES buttons? I'm considering this controller Link reviews say that the size and color is very close to original. However if anyone that has built a gameboy zero with famicon buttons can let me know how close the size is to the DMG buttons I would really apreciate it.

I think you're dealing with a quality problem. I purchased this one: Snes controller

Had no problem with button diameter. Did have to epoxy a plastic chip to make it the right depth though for my x/y. It's where the creative juices will flow

I bought this one on eBay some weeks ago.

As far as I can remember, the buttons are exactly the same as the original ones. I can show you a picture when I get home from work this afternoon.

I bought the cheap SNES controller from Gearbest. The buttons ARE smaller. The original ones from the DMG are 10.6mm and the ones from the Gearbest controller are 10.4mm. So I could use a 10.5mm drill (which I had) for the new holes instead of the recommended 10.8mm (who has that anyway?) for the original buttons.
You can barely see that they are smaller, but they definitely feel different when pressed.

I'll measure the Buffalo snes controller in the morning as well so it's specific instead of from my memory. :D

My understanding is nes and gb dmg buttons are the same size and the snes is slightly smaller

The buffalos measured 9.95mm and the GB buttons were 10.05mm No enough difference to make a difference.

I just looked into my buttons. The SNES ones I linked before, they might be a little, but very little smaller than the original ones. The difference I think is almost inapreciable. The also feel good with the PCB.

Judge for you selfs.

I could have sworn that the GB buttons were 10.5. I'll measure again! :D
