Rob's Gameboy Zero [FINISHED]
Hello community,
My name is Rob and I live in The Netherlands. A few months ago I saw Wermys project on a techsite in Holland (article: https://tweakers.net/geek/110111/gamebo ... idges.html). After a quick search I ended up on the sudomod website and saw the guides Wermy was making. So I decided to make one myself.
In this thread I'll post the progress of my GameBoy Zero build. I also found some webshops located in Holland for the most components (may be useful for other Dutch people).
Part list and webshops
I'll update this list when parts arrive, also added a link to the webshop and the costs per part (and shipping cost) so I can track how much I've spend.

Build progress
I'm waiting for the parts to arrive so I'll start by cleaning the GB;
As you can see the GB is yellow / brown so I'll give it the Retr0bright treatment to get it back to the original gray.
Next up is to modify the case.

I've started by dremmeling the two button holes;
And modified the screen window
After two days of sunshine I could finally try to get the original grey colour back. I turns out very well;
Socked in hydrogen peroxide cream;
Before and after;

All the major parts are arrived so I can start building;
Glued the screen and screwbracket in the Gameboy.
Inside;
Front;
Fitted the controller PCB and Teency
Placed the power switch and charging port. I've chosen to use the original charging port for a more OEM looking GameBoy
At this point I was so eager to finish the build I forgot to make more pictures. Here are the final pictures before closing the case
Top half
Botom half
Overview
Battery compartment, next to the lipo are the control buttons for the screen.
Modified the game cartridge. I went for a little different solution. The SD card is not accessible from the outside. I have a solution in mind to access the SD card without opening the cartridge, I'll post this later when I got it working.
Finished build
Here are the pictures of the finished GameBoy Zero
So thats it for now. I've two open ends;
1. still some audio noise, I'll fix that in the future.
2. Make the custom SD card reader

Re: Rob's Gameboy Zero
During my search for a Gameboy for my project someone offered me his brand new, unused Gameboy. I couldn't help myself and had to buy it... For € 60,00

You are not going to break apart a brand new Gameboy for this project, RIGHT?rob wrote:During my search for a Gameboy for my project someone offered me his brand new, unused Gameboy. I couldn't help myself and had to buy it... For € 60,00

Re: Rob's Gameboy Zero
Yea, I'm sure plenty will agree. Please don't break that apart! Find one that won't power on or has horizontal lines on the screen
(vertical lines can even be repaired)
An unused GameBoy for that price... You got a bargain price on a collector's item.

To be clear, I'm using an old, used and broken Gameboy for my project and the new one will be untouched!Camble wrote:Yea, I'm sure plenty will agree. Please don't break that apart! Find one that won't power on or has horizontal lines on the screen
