Thanks for looking, it's good to get second set of eyes sometimes!
You are right, I won't give up just have a break and I will take parts off and just do it in bits testing as I go.

If you put the switch between the battery and the power supply board, you won't be able to charge while the GBZ is switched off. Moreso, the GBZ will automatically power up if you plug in the USB cable.

Put your switch between the V+ pin and PP1.

True that's the other way and the way your doing it is battery charging while playing and when you shut down through menu battery is still charging untill the switch is turned off

On a different note Camble I'm doing a different project at the moment using pi zero and just wanted to pick your brains I'm thinking of doing a safe shut down. Well my project has 3 on/off buttons
One switch turns on/off power supply
2nd button safe shut down through gpio
3rd start pi and hard reset using the run pins
Is there a way of doing this with one switch

Thanks @Camble will give yours idea a go, however when i was stripping i came across i think the main problem.
when i took one of the output leads off with the rest still attached i happened to touch that wire to the solder point i just removed and it all began to power up, so i soldered it and it stopped working.
i did it a few times and can confirm when one of the output wires is not soldered and held on it boots, when i solder it to the board it doesnt? i wish i paid more attention in electronics when in school :(

@Lpoolm Sounds like you have a short. Can you post a close-up photo of your work?

Thanks camble for the quick reply, just out at the moment.
I have another powerboost so think I will take all wires out of the circuit and start again including where you have advised to place the switch, being extra careful not to have any shorts.

Hey Lpoolm, did you ever figure out the problem with the Banggood power supply? I'm having the same problem.

i have used this for the basic of wiring

and have used @badberts ( http://www.sudomod.com/forum/viewtopic. ... 3&start=40 ) photos to show me wiring up as he has confimed his works fine.
badbert.jpg

so why does it still not work

when i plug my pi in the screen boots up fine, when i go through the powerboost all i get is a red light, even when i move the switch nothing?
i have a battery attached, i have an os on sd card.
i have tried two powerboosts, both the same so its not them its me :D
i am using wires coming from the V+ V- to go to my powerstrip to power things, is this right are they power outputs? i have doubted it...
please help me :(

Have you put the output + to pp1 and - on pp6 on back of pi if you can send a picture of your work so we can see I've added this drawing hope it helps lol bit old school lol
I have a question. How do I know if the battery is actually getting charged? In my case it does not, but i followed the diagram and at least it worked while the battery had power. blue light is on when i use it. Red light is on when i charge. But i can charge it for 1-2 hours and it shuts down after 4-5 seconds at most. Any ideas on where/how to troubleshoot this?
