GBA Zero parts help

Post by douchekebab » Tue Jul 26, 2016 10:20 am

I have been planning on my gba zero for awhile and would like some help deciding on some parts. I am building one from scratch so I would like all the advice I can get on the more important parts. First and foremost would be the controls pcb. I am looking for the most convenient and space saving pcb for a bigger battery and of course, less hassle :lol: .

Would this http://store.kitsch-bent.com/product/co ... -y-version or one of @helder's custom boards be more suitable? To my understanding using the AIO v1.4 would cease the need for a micro controller and I would only require a potentiometer, jack, and speaker for my audio needs. Same goes with the blue pcb except I would require a microcontroller (Arduino Leonardo or Teensy?)

Initially this was what I was hoping to use for sound. http://www.banggood.com/5V-USB-Powered- ... 37201311DI. But looking at the control board options I am fairly certain I don't need to go down this way, nevertheless I'm keeping my options open.

The most vital part in this project. The power supply. Should I just go with a powerboost 1000 since its the most orthodox with it being used in many guides such as the graceful shutdown. Or would this much cheaper option suffice http://www.banggood.com/37V-Liion-Batte ... 28948.html.

Also planning on a minimum of 2500mAh and a maximum of 4000mAh for my batteries.

Really hoping I could get some help soon as I'm really excited on beginning on this project. Thanks! :mrgreen:

Correct me if I'm wrong but Helder mentions that he's gonna build a GBA control board.

If he is I'll order one :)

@douchekebab While the PowerBoost is an excellent supply, I do know there are a few individuals looking to extend the functionality of that basic BangGood charger/supply.

@douchekebab It's just a good quality charger with load sharing, battery protection, and a few nice features like a low battery indicator and an enable pin. I've actually found the BangGood supply to be quite sufficient, just lacking features. I've been working on a latching switch over the past two days. I'm hoping to produce this as an addon board for the BangGood supply and it will allow graceful shutdown using one of the Raspberry Pi's GPIO pins.

For those who are a bit more adventurous, it is possible to use a cheap 1A chargerboard and a cheap DC boost board. Needs a bit of switching circuitry though (a MOSFET and a couple of diodes, which you can see on the BangGood supply quite easily).

@camble That's amazing, I will gladly pay for one of those. I would try to make my own if I had the schematics :D

@Camble

Awesome to hear about this, I've got a BangGood supply en route and have been pondering about a graceful shutoff for my project, looking forward to hearing more about this little add-on you're formulating!
