Battery Life

Post by ktechelonbreak » Wed May 11, 2016 8:41 pm

Ok so I have everything wired up and it is all running smoothly with a 2500mAh battery but I have a question. The battery life is around 2-3 hours, which isn't bad but the system does seem to draw more power than it can take in. I'll have it hooked up to a charger while running and it will die out on me, is that normal? Are there ways to save on battery consumption in the build? Lowering screen brightness or settings I can do on the Pi to be more energy efficient?

Just curious, which battery did you use for your project?

Is the screen pulling 12 volts?

Using the Adafruit 2500mAh 3.7V one. Actually with the current setup I have, there is quite a bit of space leftover in the battery compartment. Depending on the width to height and thickness ratio, I could probably fit something 1.5x larger.

It's definitely running off 5V as the setup only has a LiPo board outputting 5V.

I lowered the screen brightness and redid a bit of the wiring to clean it up a bit, hopefully it'll help.

If you find a reliable and great quality battery with the right dimensions and high mAh please post a link/let me know. More battery life is always a great thing!

Im' looking at batteries online now and you already have one in (adafruit 2500mah).. How much more room would you say you have in width , height and thickness (i know you said 1.5 but is that all around another half for width height and thickness?)that you could comfortably fit on a guess. If its not too much trouble.. That way I can start searching for batteries along those dimensions.

I'll take some pictures tonight if i get the whole thing together again. I still need to add the screw posts and find a way to mount the potentionmeter securely. There's quite a bit of space since i omitted using the amp and the screen controls. I can probably add the screen controls later but honestly I didn't feel it was that necessary..

So I got my mega honking 10000mah battery just now and I'm happy to say that I think I'm going to be able to make this work! Albeit, with some slight mods to the case. Let's see!!

Which one did you use?

I'm going with
http://www.gearbest.com/power-banks/pp_230537.html
(waiting for it to come in mail)

By the dimensions I should be able to get it working when I remove the case and distance the ports themselves.
